I have recently found out that I cannot add words to the personal dictionary during spell checking. This happens on two machines both running Mathcad 15 one M045 and the other M040 running under Windows 7. It turns out that I cannot save custom words because I do not run Mathcad from an account that has administrator privileges on either. Selecting Mathcad and running as administrator does not solve the problem and I suspect that Mathcad is really not being run with administrator privileges because it does not ask for my administrator password. Has anyone else run into this problem?
The only solution PTC provided was for me to talk to our IT department, but I seriously doubt they are going to waive their practice of having people operate with a regular account rather than administrator account just to accommodate Mathcad 15. Many of us have access to an administrator account, but I'm disinclined to waive security procedures by regularly running Mathcad under my administrator account just to have access to a personal spell dictionary in Mathcad.
It is sad how little effort PTC is putting into Mathcad. |

Hyperlinking from Powerpoint to Mathcad Tags
I need to be able to link to a specific tag in a Mathcad 14 document from Powerpoint. It is easy to link to a mathcad 14 file from powerpoint ( Insert->Hyperlink->(existing file or webpage) and the Mathcad worksheet opens correctly at the beginning of the document. However, I want Mathcad go directly to a specific tag - not the beginning of the document. . I can easily create the desired hyperlink from Mathcad sheet to Mathcad sheet (Insert hyperlink FileName #Tag) and I want the same capability to link from PowerPoint to Mathcad Tag. Please note that I do not wish to paste a selected section of mathcad into powerpoint as this creates a new copy of Mathcad that opens in a small window on the Powerpoint page. I want the whole sheet in its own window opened at the previously created tag
Any help would be greatly appreciated
max function applied on matrix/vector with strings gives inconsistent results
Please check the sheet attached.
If I use the max-function on a matrix filled with strings, it returns a result.
If I use the same function on a column of the matrix, it gives an error ("These values must all be of one type")
If I assign the column of the matrix to a new variable, but don't evaluate and then use the max function on the new variable it errors
If I assign the column to a new variable and evaluate, then use the max function, it gives a result
If I write a little program and search the max of a column with different values, it errors but in the same program, if I search the max of a column (transpose of a row in this case) with identical values, it doesn't error.
Can anybody explain this inconsistent behaviour?
ebooks, Where are they?
I'm under the impression, perhaps false, that there are many published ebooks on the PTC website. Can't find them. Where are they?
Help!! File corrupted during saving (MC15.0)
Hi, I've just lost my days work. I have been working on a very large automatic file for use for non-mathcad users. I have backups but not of todays work. When I was saving, mathcad froze and now I can't open the file.
This is for designing and frame for structural engineering. I can reproduce what I did but it was many hours work.
I'm hoping someone can get it open. I've attached the 3 files that are in the folder where it was working last.
Thank you!
minimize simply reproduces guess values
hi all,
i'm using minimize to "fit" a function in prime 2. However, the result simply mimics my initial guess! even as i change the initial guesses. anything i should peak at before i upload my sheet.
How to convert a row of Excel cell values to a useful MCP vector?
Sorry if I am being a bit dense with this...
I created a table of values in the MCP 3 Excel component.
In the Outputs area, I set a variable ("Load") equal to a row of cells using an Output Expression multiplied by a unit (MW).
Outside of the Excel component, I evaluate Load and I get, for example, the following:
Load = [5.2 3.2 3.2 3.2 3.9] MW
I have a few questions about this...
One, when I looked at some YouTube tutoriials for the Excel component in which something very similar was done, the result of the evaluation was a vertical column of numbers rather than the horizontal row I get. Why is my evaluated result horizontal when the tutorial result is vertical?
Second, what is this variable in MCP terms? Is it a vector or a range variable?
Third, how do I use my variable. For example, if I wanted to set a variable, say, Load_3 to be equal to the 5th value in my vector (3.9), what would the syntax be? "x=Load(4)" does not work since my variable does not seem to be a vector or matrix (is it a range variable?)
Fourth, can I convert my Load variable to actually be a vector so I can use it in calculations?
Finally, if there are any tutorials or examples available for this area, please direct me to them.
Thanks!
How to handle Input Expression to an Excel Component where the variable has units?
I understand that the Excel component does not "know" about units of measure internally.
But if want to enter the value for a variable into the Excel component in a particular set of units, how do I do it?
For example, I have a variable "Power" in the MCP 3 which uses units of MW, e.g.:
Power := 10 MW
If I evaluate Power in MCP 3, by default, I get the following:
Power = (1 x 10^7) W
And 1 x 10^7 is also the value I get in the Excel Component if I create an Input Expression and set it equal to "Power".
But, if I want to have the value in the Excel to be 10 (i.e. MW), how do I make that happen? Is there some way to implement the Input Expression so that I get the value in the correct units?
Thanks in advance.

Can I assemble one matrix from many individual matrices?
Is it possible to assembly a global matrix from many individual local matrices? Such as is done in stiffness matrix of a structural system?
For example, if k.1 yields a 2x2 matrix with positions in regards to the global matrix 11,12,21,22. And k.2 yields a 2x2 matrix with position 22,23,32,33 again in regards to a global position. Can MathCAD assemble the matrix with correct positioning without building k.1 and k.2 as a 3x3 and then simply adding together k.1 and k.2? Its simple enough when the global is a 3x3 assemble from a 2x2, but is much more strenuous when assembling a 10x10 matrix from (5) 3x3 matrices.

Transit of Venus 2012 June 5-6
Attached are the Mathcad 14-15 worksheet and input data file used to generate the "Transit of Venus 2012 June 5-6" animation (video) that I posted on February 2, 2012. This is an astronomically rigorous calculation based upon accurate geocentric ephemerides of the Sun and Venus.
If you have not heard about this astronomical event elsewhere, surely you will, for two reasons! Because (1) this is the last transit of the Sun by Venus that anyone now living is likely to ever see. The next pair of Venus transits will occur on 2117 December 11 and on 2125 December 8. And (2) it will be easy to observe (weather permitting) as well as rare.
All you will need is an inexpensive pair of "eclipse glasses," or you can construct a "pinhole camera." But telescopic observation is also possible, with a full-aperture solar filter.
So check out the worksheet and video and be watching your local news media as we approach the month of June 2012.
CAUTION: Never look directly at the disk of the Sun without approved eclipse glasses. Never point a telescope at the Sun without a full-aperture solar filter properly affixed over the objective lens. Further, the finder scope's objective lens should be blocked with a piece of aluminum foil unless it, too, has an approved solar filter properly affixed.
Any questions? First PlanetPTC member to respond gets the points.

P.S. When you view the video, do as PlanetPTC member Kevin Bradberry suggests and click the box in the lower right of the video viewer to obtain the more legible full-screen animation.

Embedded 'Macro Enable' Excel Spreadsheet, i.e. **.xlsm files
Hi all,
I have a wee problem. I like to use excel spreadsheets within my mathcad files. To be exact I like the feature of using mathcad variables that feed into the excel doc, then take an excel cell and feed it out. So using an excel document as a little black box. I do this by using insert component, and selecting the number of inputs and outputs etc. However, I've recently discovered it doesn't seem to work with .xlsm files, that is macro enabled excel docs. When I attempt to do it my output mathcad variable goes red and says output range invalid. I've tried saving the excel doc as a 'Normal' .xls file and while it fixes this particular problem, the actual file no longer works.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Could PTC MathCAD engineering team change the hot key "shift+space" to others or add switch options?
.mcdx file association lost when uninstall MP3.0 and still have MP 4.0
Hello,
I have installed both MathCAD Prime 3.0 and 4.0, today i uninstall MathCAD Prime 3.0, then .mcdx file association lost and can't recovery association.
Here is my effort:
- open "Control Panel"->“file association configuration”, but there is no .mcdx file extension in the list, so fix failed.
- use mouse right click button on the .mcdx file ,and select "open method" to choose "C:\Program Files\PTC\Mathcad Prime 4.0\MathcadPrime.exe", still no use. The .mcdx file icon is still white and double click .mcdx file can't open it with MathCAD Prime 4.0.
How to resolve this problem?
How to switch MathCAD Prime 4.0 help from one lang to another?
hello,
I installed MathCAD Prime 4.0, and my help file is English. I want to display another language help files.
It is better that display the help files of English and another language at the same time.
Tips:
- 1.MathCAD Prime 4.0 help files are based on the technology of Tomcat, it means when you open the MathCAD Prime 4.0 help, you can paste the web address "http://127.0.0.1:64871/index.jspx" to web broswer application, it will display the local language help automatically.
- 2.The installed help file pack is in "C:\Program Files\PTC\Mathcad Prime 4.0\Help\project\WEB-INF\volume", you can see what kind of lang pack installed.
- 3.The reason i want to different help files is i want to learn more.
How to change the web address parameters in address bar of web browser application, that i can read different help files at same time?
